Because we LOVE our community and always want to give back, we have chosen to make our FIRST triathlon event all about Penelope Birgen. She was born with complex congenital heart defects and chronic lung disease. She has been hospitalized 10 times and her longest stay was a year and two months. This vibrant two-year-old has had 20 surgeries in her lifetime, four open heart surgeries, two GI surgeries, and a tracheotomy. The rest of those surgeries consisted of multiple cardiac catheterizations, emergency interventions and placements of central lines. She requires 24/7 oxygen, and now gets all her nutrition through a feeding tube. Penny sees a specialist who is in Boston, Massachusetts. The money we raise this year for Penny and her family will go to hospital bills, clinical visits and prescriptions that insurance does not cover. We want to be able to provide the family with money for plane tickets to get to Boston, as well as transportation and accommodations. It will also go to help the family get home health nurses see than she needs round the clock care. Penny will need at least one more open-heart surgery and a trach/ventilator until her lungs and heart are strong enough to work on their own. Please come join Club Loveland for our first annual Penny’s Triathlon to support a local family in our community.
The indoor triathlon will take place on Sunday, April 28th, 2019 and consists of three indoor events; swimming, biking, and running. We are offering two options and two levels so that everyone in our community may participate! Option #1 The SPRINT! – 500-yard swim, 13-mile bike ride and 3.1 mile run. You will be timed and ranked accordingly. Option #2 The TIMED version -10-minute swim, 30-minute bike ride and a 20-minute run all at your own pace. After the event, spin our wheel-of-prizes for gifts donated by our local sponsors!
What a better way to support our community than coming together and sharing this experience with Penny and her family!
